Femtosecond Laser cataract surgery

Modern cataract surgery is the most successful surgical procedure available today. Patients can undergo no-needle no-stitch dropless topical cataract surgery in an out-patient surgical suite outside of the hospital setting.

Patients also have the option of choosing upgraded lens implants that correct astigmatism or allow uncorrected distance and near vision. These “premium” lens are typically not covered by insurance, so there is an out-of-pocket cost to the patients who choose to have these lenses implanted.

Some cataract surgeons today are also offering femtosecond laser cataract surgery to cataract patients, also at additional out-of-pocket cost to patients. Patients should consider that there is no scientific proof that there is any advantage to their vision after surgery if they pay extra for this procedure. Femtosecond laser cataract surgery is also associated with surgical complications that were not described previously.
